Kashan rugs come from Central Persia (present-day Iran) and have a long textile tradition, including hand-knotted rugs. These classic Kashan rugs are made by the residents of more than 80 surrounding villages. Superior rugs were manufactured here during the Safavid dynasty (1502-1736). The famous Ardebil rug, which can be seen at the Victoria and Albert museum in London is considered to be one such example. After a period of decline and subsequently toward the end of 19th century, high quality rugs from this region attracted unwavering demand once again. The patterns consists of beautifully designed medallions, niches, trees and figural motifs and all-over floral motifs. The dominating colours are blue, red and beige.
